Washington, DC—Congressman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) today released this statement on 9/11 and the one-year anniversary of the attacks in Benghazi, Libya:

“Today, we remember the attacks of 9/11 and the 3,000 innocent lives lost that day. The Benghazi attacks, on the anniversary of such a significant day, are a clear reminder we must remain vigilant in protecting America and her people.”

“Benghazi matters as much today as it did one year ago. It matters the family and friends of four murdered Americans are still without a modicum of justice. It matters when a fundamental belief we hold about our country and our military—that you will not be left behind— has been called into question. It matters because if you can’t trust the information your government is giving you, how can you trust your government on any issue? You cannot compartmentalize credibility.”

"Even one year after the attacks, important questions remain. Why did the Secretary of State allow a consulate that did not meet security requirements to remain open? What assets, if any, were en route when the siege ended? Was there any evidence upon which Susan Rice based her public pronouncements that this attack was in response to a video? Further, the only way to know what happened the night of the attacks is to speak with eyewitnesses. Why have we not heard from one single eyewitness? We will continue to pursue the answers about what happened one year ago because Americans deserve to know the truth."
