New law allows help from feds after mass killings

A law allowing local law enforcement officials investigating mass killings and other violent crimes to request assistance from the federal Justice and Homeland Security departments has been signed into law by President Barack Obama.

Rep. Trey Gowdy introduced the Investigative Assistance for Violent Crimes Act of 2012.
