Gowdy Announces 2015 Congressional Art Competition

Rep. Trey Gowdy invites high school students from across South Carolina’s Fourth Congressional District to participate in the 2015 Congressional Art Competition. The winner’s artwork, selected by a panel of experts, will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

High school students (grades 9-12) may submit one piece of artwork. Artist should bring their submissions to either our Spartanburg or Greenville office on April 20-23 between the hours of9 am to 5 pm.

A reception will be held to display all submissions and announce First, Second, and Third places. The reception will take place from 6-7 pm on Monday, April 27 that the District Five Arts Center located at 100 North Dantzler Road Duncan, SC 29334.

Artwork must be two-dimensional and no larger than 28"×28"×4" including the frame. No framed piece should weigh more than 15 pounds. Types of artwork submitted may include the following:

  • Paintings - including oil, acrylics, and watercolor
  • Drawings - including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers
  • Collage(must be two dimensional)
  • Prints - including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints
  • Mixed Media(use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc)
  • Computer Generated Art
  • Photography

Our office provided district high school art teachers with information about the Congressional Art Competition. Students can also review the 2015 Guidelines for Students and Teachers and visit theHouse art competition website.
